Popping

Popping is a popular style of hip-hop dance that many new dancers are attracted to. It is believed to have orginated in Fresno, California in the 70s with a man called Boogaloo Sam.

Many hip-hop dance crews also incorporate popping into their performances and routines such is its widespread popularity.

Introduction

There are many styles of dance associated with popping as many poppers like to combine styles to create different effects.

This section will cover moves from popping as well as these other moves from associated styles.

Popping Moves

The Pop
This is the technique that is the basis of popping, you need to get this down first!

Twist-O-Flex
This move relies on isolations of different parts of the body, so the body ends up in a different direction at the end.

Waving
Waving creates the illusion of a wave passing through the arms or the body, one of the most recognisable moves.

Gliding
This is of course a style of dance which Michael Jackson incorporated into his stage performances under another name...I wonder what that might be???

Tutting
This style of dance might remind you of Egyptian style poses and positions - because that is what inspired it! Often seen also in street dance crews in dance competitions.

The Robot
I'm not sure if there is a better known move/ sequence of moves worldwide. If so please let me know, and do not say the moonwalk either I've heard of that one!
